Iraq: no punishment for Kurds

(MENAFN) Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi stated that his government will not take any action against the Kurds, knowing that they are worried about economical and financial sanctions enforced by Baghdad.

After a controversial month, Al-Abadi demanded that Kurdish leaders should disdain their independence referendum, be completely committed to Iraq's constitutional unity, and end provocations in areas they have "illegally seized."

Baghdad claims that the independence referendum was illegal and unauthorized, and forces a ban on global flights to and from Irbil, but Kurdish leaders persist that the center of discussions with the government, must be the result of the referendum.
