Amman, Oct. 3 (Petra) - The Jordan-Africa Business Association (JABA) President, Reem Badran discussed with Chairman of the Union of African Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Professions, Ahmed Wakil mechanisms of cooperation between the two sides to support the Jordanian commercial presence in the African market.

During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the Arab-African Economic Forum that was recently hosted by Jordan, the two sides also talked about the possibility of establishing joint logistics companies, studying opportunities available in the African market and holding conferences and exhibitions for Jordanian products.

Badran said that the association aims to serve the Jordanian business community as well as trade, industrial and services sectors and boost cooperation between the Jordanian private sector and its counterparts in Africa.

The association, she added will focus on increasing trade exchange with the African market as one of the most important alternative markets for Jordanian exports in light of the current conditions that led to the closure of border crossings for exports and commodities.

The volume of trade exchange between the Kingdom and Africa in 2015 stood at $1.36 billion, accounting for 5 percent of the Kingdom's trade with world nations (Asia, Europe and America).

Wakil, who also heads the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, pointed out that the African Union would seek to improve cooperation with various economic blocs, especially the Arab countries.

He stressed the importance of cooperation between the two sides in exchanging information and studies, noting that a study is currently being conducted by the chamber on the African market and the promising economic sectors.
