Oman Cricket: Muscat defeats Assarain by five wickets

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Half-centuries from skipper Vaibhav Wategaonkar (77) and Ayaan Khan (64) and a four-wicket haul by medium-pacer Rajesh Ranpura steered Muscat CT to a five-wicket win over defending champion Assarain CT, in an Oman Cricket Premier Division game in Al Amerat on Friday.

After bowling Assarain out for 257 in 50 overs, Muscat suffered two early setbacks before a 73-run partnership between opener Swapnil Khadye (42) and Wategaonkar put its run chase back on track. Khan led the rest of the chase after Wategaonkar retired hurt at 168 for four in 37.4 overs. Khan shared a 43-run fifth-wicket partnership with Sandeep Goud (28) to lead his team to victory in the 49th over.

Earlier, Assarain looked set for an imposing total thanks to Shahan Akram's 77 and an explosive 50 off 22 balls by Naseem Khushi before Ranpura's quick three wickets, including that of Khushi, halted the charge. Gustav Burger (37), Ramkumar Pandarathil (36) and Zeeshan Maqsood (27) were the other notable scorers.
