AFC U16 Championship 2018: Oman's berth in AFC U16 finals confirmed


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's berth in the AFC U16 Championship 2018 in Malaysia was confirmed on Friday after the conclusion of Group H action in Yangon, Burma on Friday.

South Korea edged past China 1-0 to clinch the automatic qualification spot from Group H for the Asian U16 championship.

Oman, coached by Yaqoob al Sabahi, had finished second in Group B behind hosts Tajikistan, which had earned a direct spot.

The top ten group winners earned direct berth along with the best second-placed teams, which was determined after Friday's conclusion of Group H.

Oman, which had six points from its three matches had a healthy goal-difference of 13 goals as it had thumped Maldives 8-0 and Maldives 6-0 in its group matches. It lost to Tajikistan 0-1 last Sunday.

Besides Oman, India, Thailand, Vietnam and Afghanistan qualified as the five best second-placed teams.

South Korea was joined in finals by other nine group-winners - Australia, North Korea, Japan, Jordan, Iraq, Indonesia, Iran, Tajikistan and Yemen with hosts Malaysia qualifying automatically.
