Turkey destroys PKK bases in northern Iraq

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- The Turkish General Staff said it destroyed locations of the Kurdistan's Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq late Saturday.

The military raids destroyed arms dumps and shelters in Metina region, the staff said in a statement Sunday.

Airstrikes on PKK targets in southeast Turkey and northern Iraq, the group's main base in the Qandil region near the Iranian border, have been carried out regularly by Turkey since July 2015, when the PKK resumed its armed campaign against the Turkish government.

Meanwhile, Turkey had sent further military vehicles and equipment to Reyhanli town in Hatay Province, near the borders with Syria, according to Anadolu Agency. (end) ta.ag
