Qatar- Industrial production index rises in July

The index of industrial production rose by 0.8 percent in July 2017 to 104.1 points, compared to the previous month (June 2017), and decreased by 2.4 percent compared to the corresponding month in 2016, QNA reported.

The industrial production index, released yesterday by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, consists of three main components including mining with a relative importance of 83.6 percent, manufacturing with a relative importance of 15.2 percent, electricity with a relative importance of 0.7 percent, and water with a relative importance of 0.5 percent.

The mining index indicates stability in the quantities produced of crude oil and natural gas, and a rise in the production of quarries by 3.1 percent compared to the previous month (June - 2017) and a decline of 3.4 percent when compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (July 2016) ).

In the manufacturing sector, a rise of 4.5 percent was recorded in July 2017 from the previous month, as a result of higher production in seven groups including the beverage industry by 16.5 percent, the base metals industry by 12.6 percent, the food industry by 9.8 percent , the cement industry and other non-metallic mineral products by 6.1 percent, the refined petroleum products industry by 5.3 percent, the chemicals and chemical products industry by 3.4 percent, the rubber and plastics products industry by 2.8 percent, while there was a decline in production, in one group which is printing and copying of recorded media by 7.8 percent.

In terms of annual change in the manufacturing sector, the sector recorded a rise of 2.7 percent from July 2016 due to the increase in production for the following groups: food products industry by 39.8 percent, refined petroleum products industry by 25.3 percent, chemicals and chemical products by 0.9 percent Percent.

As for the decline, it was in the following categories: printing and copying of the recorded media by 11.4 percent, basic metals industry by 11.2 percent, cement industry and other non-metallic mineral products by 5 percent, rubber and plastic products industry by 4.8 percent and beverage industry by 3.4 percent.

The electricity sector recorded a rise in production between July 2017 and the previous month by 14.1 percent, while the annual increase was 3.7 percent (July 2017 and July 2016).

The water sector index rose by 1.5 percent when compared to July 2017 with the previous month, while production fell by 6.9 percent, compared to July last month with the corresponding month of the previous year.
