Oman- Dhyan Chand Day hockey tourney held


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The 12th Dhyan Chand Day six-a-side hockeytournamentwas recently organised at the OFA ground in Qurm, under the patronage of Embassy of India, Muscat.

H E Indra Mani Pandey, India's Ambassador to Oman, conveyed his greetings for the success of the event. In a noble gesture, he nominated Rakesh Adlakha, first secretary and head of Chancery as the special guest. Adlakha distributed the dazzling trophies to the winners Dhyan Chand XI, who topped the league;Kishen Lal XI were the second runners-upand K D Singh Babu XI ranked third. The organisers had named the Coorg teamsas the Dhyan Chand XI, Kishen Lal XI, K D Singh Babu XI and Balbir Singh Senior XI.

The organisers offered their sincere gratitude to Dr Hammad Hamed al Ghafri, former president of Oman Olympic Committee and presently Advisor of Ministry of Civil Services. Future Group of Companies has been supporting the above events for the past two years.

It was a great gesture by the organisers to encourage the youth, women other personalities from the expatriate community for their outstanding contribution in sports, social activities etc.

Adlakha presented awards to Sanskar Dubey, a student of ISM who had a distinguished record as the most promising youngtennis and table tennis star in the sultanate from the Indian community.Madhulika Gupta a famous social worker aswell as a women's cricket and sports volunteer, was also honoured witha memento by Adlakha.

He delivered a powerful speech, which was highly admired, as he paid rich tributes to Dhyan Chand who was given the title of wizard of hockey bythe greatest dictator of his time and history, Adolph Hitler.

Adlakha praised Team Coorg and Bellu Kuttappa, who is inspiring the young team from Coorg. He is avery popular figure in Muscat whofoundedTeam Coorg Muscatalong with C K Somiah and S A S Naqvi.

D R Bijlani, a popular figure and great business personality, was the guest of honour.

The vote of thanks was presented by Naqvi, former technical advisor of Oman Olympic Committee for along period of 20 years. He is one of the founders of Oman Olympic Committee, besides being the National Hockey Coach of India and Oman.

He expressed his sincere thanks on behalf of the organisers to Adlakha, the special guest and H E Pandey for the wonderful patronage.

Naqvielaborated on his great link with hockey wizard Dhyan Chandsince 1947.
