42 Iraq employees trained in Jordan on restructuring electricity sector


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sept.30 (Petra) - The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) Saturday concluded three training courses, started last month to train 42 employees from the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity on restructuring the electricity sector in their war-torn country.

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Farouq Hiyari, said in a statement the three courses aimed at transferring EMRC' staff knowledge and experience to their Iraqi counterparts in restructuring, regulating and controlling of the electricity sector .

EMRC adopted workshop-style training, during which trainees focused on methods in restructuring the electricity sector, tools and means to determine the electricity tariff as well as partnership between the public and private sectors, he said.

Participants also discussed standards that test the regulator efficiency, supervisory, technical, and administrative aspects, through which the commission can monitor the performance of companies operating in the sector, Hiyari explained.

The courses also included field visits to electricity companies, where the participants were briefed about the work mechanisms and performance of call centers of these companies, he added.

The EMRC is a governmental body that possess a legal personality with financial and administrative independence. It is considered the legal successor of the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the Jordan Nuclear Regulatory Commission (JNRC) and the Natural Resources Authority (NRA).
