The best and innovative practices in the area of physiotherapy and its role in enabling people to live healthier lifestyles was discussed during an event held yesterday to commemorate ‘World Physiotherapy Day 2017.' The seminar ‘Physical Activity for Life' was held to align with the 2017 theme, ‘Movement for Health,' and gathered hundreds of professionals in the field of physiotherapy.
The seminar was designed to enrich participants' knowledge in role of exercises as a lifelong activity for healthy living and was jointly organized by the Indian Physiotherapy Forum Qatar (IPFQ) and Al Ahli Hospital at the Concorde Hotel.
P Kumaran, Indian Ambassador to Qatar, inaugurated the seminar and highlighted the need of more awareness in the society about the role of physiotherapy in healthy living.
'The population in many countries in the world is aging at a rate faster than many anticipated. The problem that arises from the large number of people that age in a society is that relatively a smaller number of working population has to support the larger number of older people who's social security and health care need to be taken care of and the responsibility of supporting the larger aging population falls on the younger working population. This can bring stress on the social security funds that are required to support the population and also on the healthcare facilities and infrastructure required to support them. The role of physiotherapist in this regard is very important, to support the society for healthy aging, to ensure that people age in a manner that is graceful, painless, and healthy as possible for a longer time. This will make our healthcare and social security systems more sustainable over the long run, said Kumaran.
Dr Loui Al Fakri, Head of Staff Training and Development at Al Ahli Hospital, Mohamed Yasir, President of IPFQ, Sheena Maria John, General Secretary of IPFQ, Prasobh Jacob, Joint Secretary, IPFQ, Shefi V Rasheed, Vice President, IPFQ also made presentations at the seminar.
During the seminar, experts discussed on topics such as, exercises for - healthy individuals, disease prevention and appropriate treatment; the precautions and appropriateness of activity prescriptions.
