Saudi- UN Recognizes Standardized Arab System for Arabic Transliteration into Latin

Riyadh, Muharram 06, 1439 H., September 26, 2017, SPA -- The United Nations has adopted the unified and standardized Arab system for the transliteration of Arabic letters into Latin, it was reported here today.
The step, which was done last month, is an offshoot of the efforts of the National Committee for the Names of Geographical Places in the Kingdom.
Chairman of the National Committee for the names of geographical places Dr. Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Samari said that this Saudi, Arab and international contributions in the field of geographical names is achieved thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, his Crown Prince and the new directives, led by the government of the Kingdom and its balanced and effective policy to achieve joint Arab, regional and international cooperation.
Head of the Arab Division for Geographical Names Experts Brigadier Dr. Awni Mohammed Al Khasawneh expressed happiness with this acknowledgment.
After the painstaking efforts, discussions and conferences, the Riyadh meeting was approved, praising the Saudi role through the National Committee for Names of Geographical Places in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and commended the efforts of King Abdulaziz Foundation, which oversees the Saudi National Committee to actively participate in the UN meetings that approved the system.
