Royal Jordanian (RJ) halts flights to Iraqi Kurdistan's Irbil, Sulaymaniyah

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- Royal Jordanian (RJ) will temporarily suspend its flights to Irbil and Sulaymaniyah, in northern Iraq, starting at 6 pm Amman local time (15:00 GMT) ) on Friday, RJ said in a statement Wednesday.

The airline's decision responded to a request from the Iraqi authorities to stop all flights to the two cities as of Friday until a further notice.

RJ operates 10 weekly flights to Irbil and three to Sulaymaniyah, and runs 15 flights to Baghdad and six to Basra.

Baghdad had asked all the airlines flying to Irbil and Sulaymaniyah to halt flights to both starting from tomorrow, after the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) refused to hand the two airports over to Baghdad after the independence referendum the region held on Monday. (end) ab.tb.msa
