Kuwait- 168,000 tons of expired food destroyed


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28: A recent statistic issued by the Municipality for 2016 and 2017 show a total of 7,008 citations were issued, including 6,559 pertaining to foodstuffs and 449 imported foods which roughly works out to 584 violations per month on every working day, reports Al-Qabas daily.

According to the statistics the rate of violations pertaining to foodstuffs are the highest compared to other violations; up by 56 percent from the last recorded index of violations which were 3,936. The statistics also showed the Municipality has destroyed 168,000 tons of foodstuffs is just two months, while 187,000 tons were re-exported to the country of origin for a variety of reasons.

The daily also added, 1,203 tons of food was found unsuitable for human consumption, and 1,042 tons did not meet the standard specifications.
