Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) and Qatar R/C Sport Center recently organised an exclusive event for the children of Qatar Orphans Foundation, Dreama, and Shafallah Center, Qatar's specialist centre for children with special needs.
During the event children with special needs were giving access to Qatar R/C Sport Center's hundreds of radio-controlled aircraft and they were offered an insight into one of the world's fastest growing hobbies.
The event, which took place at Aspire Dome, started with an overview of the types of radio-controlled aircraft that are available today, offering the children a hands-on demonstration using a variety of models.
This was then followed by a thorough briefing on safe practices before the Dreama and Shafallah children had the chance to virtually experience how to fly a radio-controlled aircraft on a virtual-reality flight simulator that was provided by Qatar R/C Sport Center.
Commenting on the event, Nasser Abdullah Al Hajri, Director of PR and Communications at AZF, said: It was 'amazing watching the children interact with the activities and that AZF was 'thrilled to be able to offer such a unique day out for so many children.
Al-Hajri also highlighted that AZF, in collaboration with Qatar R/C Sport Center, was keen to make this event as appealing as possible for the children by combining elements of sports, entertainment and education in a fun environment to teach them new skills and help them interact with society.
'At AZF, we understand the vital importance of Qatar's social institutions and the noble role they play, ensuring they provide care to vulnerable children across the country and help them integrate with Qatari society, he added. Meanwhile, Amir al-Haddad, Director of Events and Communications at Qatar R/C Sport Center, said: 'We focused heavily on radio-controlled aircrafts for this event as they really attract children and we could see immediately how much they enjoyed seeing the detailed models take to the skies. Being one of the centres affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Sports, we are responsible for raising community awareness concerning the fast growing hobby of radio-controlled sports and ensure people are aware of safe practices, and in collaboration with AZF, this event in has been a perfect opportunity to spread the word, especially amongst children. Radio-controlled aircraft's are considered one of the most exciting sports that can give fans and participants a sense of self-confidence, especially during childhood and adolescence. It also requires dedication to learn the skills required to perform incredible air shows. In addition, its community provides a very collaborative and socially interactive environment for children.
