Amman, Sept.27 (Petra) -- Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Hani Mulki, on Wednesday, received Singapore's Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen, and discussed with him ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, especially in the defense field.

The prime minister briefed Minister Hen on challenges facing Jordan, in terms of the Syrian crisis, its economic and social repercussions and the closure of the border, which has greatly affected the ability of Jordanian exports to enter the markets of Turkey and Eastern Europe countries.

In this regard, he noted the strenuous efforts and heavy burdens borne by the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) and security services to maintain the border's security and prevent infiltration attempts by terrorist groups to Jordan while at the same time providing assistance to Syrian refugees.

Mulki pointed out that Jordan is in turn receiving refugees and providing basic services to them on behalf of the international community. The cost of receiving refugees is draining a large part of the budget beyond its capacity, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to continue supporting Jordan.

The failure to find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause is the root of challenges and problems facing the Middle East, the prime minister said. He warned that the lack of justice triggers the feelings of despair and frustration among the peoples of the region.

He stressed that the war on terror is the responsibility of everyone in this world through a holistic approach that ensures the elimination of terrorism.

The premier reviewed the government's plan and program for reforming the education sector and focusing on vocational and technical education and training.

He expressed desire to benefit from Singapore's advanced experience in the field of education, which has played a major role in the renaissance and progress of Singapore in all fields.

He underlined the importance of maximizing the benefit of the free trade agreement, which links the two countries, in developing economic and trade between them, which is still below the required level.

Singapore's Defense Minister commended Jordan's important role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in promoting security and stability in the region.

He referred to the burden borne by Jordan as a result of receiving several waves of refugees from Palestine, Iraq, Syria and others.

He emphasized the importance of exchanging information and strengthening efforts with regard to the war on terrorism, which has become an international issue that does not concern the Middle East alone.

Jordan represents the voice of wisdom and moderation and reflects the true picture of Islam, Minister Hen said, adding that many students from Singapore chose to study Islamic law at Jordanian universities and institutes as Jordan enjoys the values of moderation and tolerance expressed in the Amman Message.
