Iran's parliament Speaker disappointed with Kurdish referendum

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TEHRAN, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- It is unfortunate that while the issue of terrorism in Iraq has not been resolved, the Iraqi Kurdistan region is creating another crisis in the country, Iran's Parliament Speaker said on Tuesday.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Ali Larijani said that Iran has always supported various Iraqi groups. Since the creation of a democratic structure in Iraq, several terrorist groups emerged in the country, namely the so-called Isalmic (IS) which took control of some cities of Iraq, he added.

The Iraqi federal and Kurdistan governments asked Iran to help fight IS, but it is unfortunate that in a situation that the terrorism threat in Iraq is not over, the issue of Kurdistan independence is put forth, Larijani said, warning that the referendum will cause tension in Iraq.

Despite opposition by the Iraqi federal government, regional states, as well as international community, the independence referendum was held Monday in some northern Iraqi provinces, including Irbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and some disputed regions like Kirkuk. (end) mw.gta
