UAE- Old video of stray lioness sends cops on a wild goose chase

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A video of a stray lioness on the road in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has gone viral on social media since Mondayevening.

The unidentified person, who recorded and shared the video, warned the public about the stray animal, and advised them to watch over their kids and prevent them from going outdoors.

After being alerted of the video, the central operations room of the RAK police dispatched three emergency teams that searched the entire 'Seeh Al Zahra' neighbourhood of the 'Barirat' area where the lioness was reportedly spotted.

The hunt operation took around three-and-a-half hours during which the emergency teams covered not only the Seeh Al Zahra area but also all the nearby places, including Shamal, Al Hudaiba, and the road to Jebel Jais.

However, the search operation came to a stop when the residents told the police that the lioness had not strayed, and had been kept in a safe place.

While some sources said that the lioness owner found it, Tariq Yahmur Saeed Al Habsi, a representative of the Huboos tribe, said that the video of the lioness was old, and denied the predator's escape.

"The lioness has not escaped at all, and is kept in a safe place as far as I know."

Police sources said that the search operations startedon Mondayfrom4pm to 7.30pm, but nothing was found.

The hunt was carried out by the police in collaboration with the animal shelter centre in Ras Al Khaimah.

The search teams were armed with the equipment needed to catch the lioness.

The RAK police urged the public to check what they share on social media so that it doesn't scare or worry people unreasonably.
