Doha: The Director of the Office of National Institutions, Regional Mechanisms and Civil Society Institutions at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Vladlen Stefanov has denied what was broadcasted by the media of the four siege countries that he received reports from what is known as the Arab Federation for Human Rights including a complaint against Qatar's National Human Rights Committee (NHRC).

He also denied any promises to the organization's officials to consider reducing the (A) classification of the National Human Rights Committee.

Responding to NHRC's officials, Stefanov said that he has been informed that there are media reports about promises made by him to subject the Committee to a review by the subcommittee for accreditation, which is not true, assuring the NHRC that they stand by its side and support the position announced during their meeting in Geneva.

In this regard, he underlined a previous letter saying that the National Human Rights Committee is acting in accordance with Paris Principles as an institution classified under grade (A) and there is no need for any special review.

The siege countries's media have broadcasted statements of officials of the Arab Federation Organization, which is a notorious and unlicensed UAE association based in Abu Dhabi, saying that it had lodged a new complaint to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights against the Qatari National Human Rights Committee, claiming that the Committee was politicizing human rights issues.

The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) is subjected to a large campaign of distortion by the siege countries, aims to disrupt and sabotage efforts to detect violations of the siege since the beginning of the Gulf crisis on June 5.

In a press release, the NHRC expressed regret at the illegal movements of the siege countries and their institutions, rather than working to redress their flagrant violations of human rights.

The Committee also said that it has been subjected along with other international organizations to large-scale defamation campaigns, which have not spare even the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, as the countries of the siege did not spare any means or effort to attack them.

In its statement, the Committee reviewed the campaigns, tours and events organized by the siege countries in this context to incite against it and accuse it of lying, as well as to spread fabricated news and put pressure against it in various international institutions.
