Sri Lank to bring permanent price index for coconut

(MENAFN) Sri Lankan media reports said that the country will bring in a permanent price index to control the price of coconuts after black markets were caught selling it at exorbitant rates.

According to the Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB) Chairman Kapila Yakandawala, the price index will be announced shortly owing to the prevailing high prices for coconuts in the retail market.

Since the coconut should be priced between 70 Sri Lankan rupees and 75, black market vendors were selling it at high prices.
