Oman- MoH celebrates opening of brain stroke unit at Nizwa Hospital


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Health (MoH) celebrated the opening of the brain stroke unit at the Nizwa Hospital, under the patronage of H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamed al Sadi, Governor of Dakhliyah. The celebration was also attended by H E Sayyed Dr Sultan bin Yarub al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Health Affairs in MoH.

During the ceremony, H E Dr Busaidi said that the unit is the third of its kind in Oman. The other two are in the Khoula Hospital and Sohar Hospital.

A fourth unit will be opened in Salalah Hospital soon.

During the ceremony, Dr Amal bint Mohamed al Hashimiyah, first consultant in neurology and head of the Central Stroke Unit at Khoula Hospital, said, 'In the first stage of this unit, we conducted a stroke protocol and a training for a number of medical staff. During the preparation of this unit, a number of field visits were conducted to make sure that a complete team was formed and a list of all requirements were prepared for the initiation of the project.'

H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid al Saeedi, Minister of Health too had conducted a visit during the month of September to make sure that the work for the project was on track. He was accompanied by Dr Kadhim bin Jafar bin Sulaiman, director general of the Specialized Health care at the Ministry of Health.

Dr Saif bin Said al Adawi, consultant neurologist and head of internal medicine department and head of the stroke unit at Nizwa Hospital said that the unit has six beds, three of them are for males while the others are for females.
