Oman- MECA holds workshop to prepare strategy on protecting marine life


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A five-day workshop on preparing a strategy to protect marine life concluded recently. Organised by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA), the event was held under the auspices of H E Najeeb bin Ali al Rawas, undersecretary, MECA.

MECA's technical team is coordinating its efforts with Japan International Cooperation Agency, the United Nations Environment Programme and Regional Organisation for Protecting the Marine Environment to develop this strategy.

Dr Thurayah bint Said al Saririyah, assistant director general, MECA, said, 'Oman has joined hands with Japan to protect Avicennia plants across the sultanate.' The project aims on preparing a strategy of protecting marine environment with concerned institutions. Oman plans to diversify its economy and make the best use of its marine resources as part of its 2040 strategy.
