Z. Fareen Parvez


(MENAFN- The Conversation) Z. Fareen Parvez is the author of Politicizing Islam: the Islamic Revival in France and India (Oxford University Press, 2017). The book draws on two years of ethnographic research among Muslim communities in Lyon, France, and Hyderabad, India. It provides an in-depth view into how Muslims across class struggle to improve their lives while facing hostilities.

Parvez completed her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters in Public Policy at the University of Michigan. She is former fellow of the New Directions in the Study of Prayer initiative at the Social Science Research Council. During this time she did pilot research on the intersection of Islamic revival and religious healing in Morocco.
