Iran's car imports increases by 38%

Iran imported 44,000 cars, worth $1.18 billion, during the first half of the current fiscal year (started March 20, 2017), Mojtaba Khosrotaj, head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), said.

The country's car imports indicate a rise of 40 percent in terms of value, compared to the same period of the preceding year, the official said.

The number of the imported cars also registered a 38-percent increase year on year, Khosrotaj said, TPO reported.

Iran's car imports in the sixth Iranian calendar month (Aug. 22-Sept. 22) stood at 6,000 vehicles, worth $138 million.

Cars worth $1.957 billion topped the list of Iran's imported goods with 4.5 percent share from the country's total imports' value in last fiscal year(ended March 20, 2017). Iran's car imports registered a rise by 59 percent year on year.

Over 1.350 million cars were also produced in Iran, last fiscal year.

The country plans to increase annual car production level to 3 million cars in the next five years.
