An Egyptian woman who was once known as the world's heaviest and visited India early this year for a weight-loss operation, died in Abu Dhabi on Monday, after fighting a long battle with a rare genetic disorder, according to media reports.
Eman Ahmed, 37, who weighed nearly 500 kilograms when she arrived in Mumbai in February from Alexandria, Egypt, had been in Abu Dhabi since May, reported. Officials at Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi confirmed her cause of death as heart disease and kidney dysfunction.

In Mumbai, she was treated by a team of about 15 doctors led by Dr Muffazal Lakdawala at Saifee Hospital. However, Ahmed's sister, Shaimaa, alleged that her treatment in Mumbai was not satisfactory.
reported that in secretly filmed video footage, Shaimaa claimed that the doctors were merely using her sister for publicity. The doctors, however, refuted the allegations and reportedly said that Ahmed's sister only wanted to extend her sister's stay in the hospital.
In response to the allegations, Dr Muffazal Lakdawala said, "We have not asked for a single penny from Eman's family. We are happy that we did bring her weight down."
According to the hospital, Ahmed's treatment cost about R3 crore (US$4,600), of which around Rs65 lakh was donated by individuals.
After undergoing the weight-loss operation in Mumbai, Ahmed who weighed around 176 kg at the time, left for Abu Dhabi on May 4 for further treatment.
