Jordan- Suwaqa Prison Rioters Separated and Transferred to Other PrisonsRiots over Prices, Services, and Inappropriate Food

AMMAN —AlGhad— The Administration of the Suwaqa correctional facility decided today, Sunday, to separate and transfer the 151 rioters involved in the incidents last Friday to other prisons across the Kingdom, according to ranking police officers.

The police informed the legal committee during their visit to Swaqa today on account of the riots which broke out Friday.

Mohammad Shamma, member of the Jordan Coalition Against Torture (JO-CAT), told AlGhad that the prisoners were simply protesting supermarket prices, services, and inappropriate food.

The Coalition, alongside the National Human Rights Centre's delegation interviewed guards and prisoners, individually, Basel Tarawneh confirmed to AlGhad, the government's human rights coordinator.

Tarawneh also confirmed that this visit will not be the last.
