(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has suggested that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, succeed him in 2022, the Philippine Star Online reported yesterday.
'I couldn't find any other better candidate than Sara to become the next president, the Philippine Star quoted the Duterte as saying during a talk with reporters in Davao City on Friday night.
Duterte, a former mayor of Davao City, was poised to run for another term in 2016 when he was convinced to run for president instead, prompting his daughter to run instead.
She had also been mayor there before.A lawyer by profession, Carpio, 39, is married to a fellow lawyer and has three children. 'And one thing about her is she is not a bigot, the newspaper quoted the Philippine president as saying. He called his daughter a strong woman who knows the law very well.
Carpio is known for being tough like her father. She gained national prominence in July 2011 when national TV and newspapers reported that she punched a court sheriff who refused to delay a demolition in Davao City during her first term as mayor. The court sheriff pushed on with the demolition even when Carpio asked him to delay it as she was still in another part of Davao City attending to the victims of a flash flood.
