Kuwait- Campaign launched to shut 'mobile shops', nab vendors


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Sept 24: The Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipality disclosed that a campaign was launched in Kabad area, Abdali area and on Salmi Road by the Department of Public Cleanliness and Road Works of Jahra Municipality with the aim of eradicating the phenomenon of street vendors and mobile grocery stores (bakalas), reports Al- Anba daily.

The campaign, which resulted in the closing down 16 mobile grocery stores, is part of the wide campaign titled 'With Your Cooperation, We Make It Beautiful' launched by the Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipality. Inspections teams from the Department of Public Cleanliness and Road Works took action against 16 mobile bakalas including vehicles used for selling ice without license, six unlicensed mobile grocery stores without a license and vehicles that sold water without a license.

They also lifted three abandoned vehicles, confiscated a refrigerator and issued four citations to street vendors.

The Public Relations Department called on citizens and residents to contact Kuwait Municipality through the hotline No. 139 or through its social media account @kuwmun to report any complaints concerning the municipality's work, affirming that their complaints will be dealt directly in accordance with the municipal regulations.
