Six players including the highly talented Syed Azlan Amjad will be seen in action in the qualifying rounds of the Qatar Classic squash championship at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, organizers of the event informed her yesterday.
According to the draw, Ajmad will be joined by Abdulrahman Al Malki, Ahmad Mohammed Al Tamimi, Abdulwahab Al Ishaq, Umair Zaman and Hamad Al Amri at the event.
Qatar's Rashid Al Harib and Mohammad Salim Saadi Al Yaafei have been listed in the reserves for the event to be hosted by Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation (QTSBF).
The preliminary rounds will be held for two days on October 27 and 28 while the main event draw starts the following day and finishes with the final on Friday November 3.
Qatar's top player Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi - ranked 42 in the world - is part of the main draw that has attracted the world's top players for the week-long event.
Al Tamimi takes the tournament wildcard spot for the fifth successive time as he aims to progress beyond the opening round for the first time in his career.
Tournament Director Tareq Zainal (pictured) said: 'This is a great opportunity for Qatar players to learn and improve as they play in the qualifying stage. Some of the world's rising players will appear in the qualifying stage of the event.
Tareq added: 'We are hoping that the Qatari players produce good results on their home territory. They have been working hard and getting the right coaching. It's a matter of time before they play the main draw in the future.
The first-round loser gets $1,888 while the round two players get $ 3,206. Players in the third round get $ 5,415 and the ones who lose the semifinals get $ 9,120.
A record $165,000 will be up for grabs as the likes of World No.1 Gregory Gaultier, defending champion Karim Abdel Gawad, two-time winner Mohamed ElShorbagy and 2009 champion Nick Matthew battle it out for the second World Series title of the 2017/18 season.
Egyptian maverick Ramy Ashour will appear at the Qatar Classic for the first time since the 2011 edition as he returns to the scene of his second and third PSA Men's World Championship triumphs in 2012 and 2014, respectively, with ElShorbagy losing out in both finals.
In addition to the lucrative prize fund, players will also earn points for the World Series Standings, where only the top eight players will qualify for a coveted berth at the PSA World Series Finals in June.
