Turkish soldier killed by PKK in Hakkari province


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- A Turkish soldier was killed and four others wounded in clashes with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the southeastern province of Hakkari on Thursday.

The military operation, backed by the Air Force, continues against the PKK terrorists in the provinces of Hakkari, Sirnak, Mardin, Siirt and Diyarbakir, Anadolu Agency reported, citing military sources. During the last week, at least 46 PKK fighters were killed in these provinces and 47 shelters and arsenals they used were destroyed. The security forces also seized dozens of explosive materials and heavy ammunition, according to the Turkish General Staff.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU, resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians. (end) rs.gb
