Canada imposes sanctions on Venezuelan officials, including Maduro

(MENAFN) The Canadian foreign ministry said that Canada will impose targeted sanctions on senior officials in Venezuela, including President Nicolas Maduro, over 'anti-democratic behavior'.

Canada's move came after US decision to impose sanctions on Venezuelan officials, and it followed protests against Maduro's government in which 125 people were killed.

Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said: "Canada will not stand by silently as the government of Venezuela robs its people of their fundamental democratic rights."
