Oman- Director Sathyan Anthikad to be honoured during Onam celebrations in Muscat


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Malayalam Wing of Indian Social Club Oman under the umbrella of Indian Social Club has announced that it will be holding its Onam celebrations at the Le Grande Hall, Al Falaj Hotel from Thursday. The wing will be organising various events over three days.

On Thursday, the members of the wing will receive the chief guest. H E Indra Mani Pandey,India's Ambassador to Oman, Malayalam film director Sathyan Anthikad and other dignitaries from the Government of Oman.

The guests will be welcomed with the traditional thaalapoli and chenda melam. Students in class 10 and 12 and membersof the wing will also be honoured for their special achievements. Besides showcasing a few cultural folk art forms, the event will also see the Mahabali varavelpu (welcoming King Mahabali).

On Friday, the wing will honour Anthikad with the Cultural Award-2017. A well-known luminary of the south Indian film industry, Anthikad has served the film industry in various capacities such asfilm director, screenwriter and lyricist. He has bagged several state and national awards for his contributions to the film industry. He has also directed more than 50 films and penned about 100 Malayalam film songs.

The highlight of the third day will be the Onam sadya, an indispensable part of the festival. Around 3,000 people will take part in the feast which will see dishes being served on plantain leaves. The wing with its host of activities will offer its guests a true experience of the harvest festival.
