Saudi Arabia looks forward to the wisdom and experience of President Massoud Barazani not to hold Kurdistan Independence Referendum, official source says

Jeddah, Dhul-Hijjah 29, 1438 H., September 20, 2017, SPA -- Commenting on reports that a referendum was scheduled for September 25, 2017 to determine the independence of in the Iraqi enclave of Kurdistan, an official source of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said that, in view of the current conditions being experienced by the region embodying dangerous risks and keen to see the region avoiding new crises that might result in negative political, security and humanitarian repercussions and lead to undermine the efforts aiming to achieve stability and security in the region, including the fight against terrorist organizations and related activities, and in line with regional and international positions on this issue, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia looks forward to the wisdom and experience of President Massoud Barazani not go ahead with the plan, which if thwarted would definitely spare Iraq and the region more risks that might ensue if otherwise.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia calls on all the components of the Iraqi parties concerned to engage in a dialogue to achieve the interests of the brotherly Iraqi people in a way that ensures security and peace in Iraq and preserve its unity and sovereignty.
Expressing special appreciation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq Dr. Haider Al-Abadi for his efforts in serving Iraq and all the components of the Iraqi people, as well as the leaders and members of the Iraqi enclave of Kurdistan for the achievements and progress they have put into reality in all fields, the Kingdom calls for preserving those achievements and urges for not taking unilateral positions that might augment the complications of the regional situation and, instead, work to meet the interests of the two sides and achieve the aspirations of the Iraqi people through living up to the agreements signed by the two parties as well as the provisions of the Iraqi constitution.
