Weeratunga and Anusha Pelpita granted bail in sil redi case

Lalith Weeratunga, secretary to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Telecom Regulatory Commission Chairman Anusha Pelpita were today granted bail in the "sil redi" case by the Colombo High Court today.

Weeratunga and Pelpita were released on a cash bail of Rs 100,000 each and three personal bails of Rs 1 million each.

Weeratunga and Pelpita had recently filed an appeal against the Colombo High Court ruling which found them guilty in a corruption case.

Weeratunga and Pelpita were found guilty in the 'sil redi' case and were sentenced to three years in jail by the Colombo High Court, and ordered to pay Rs. 2 million each as a fine and Rs. 50 million each as compensation. (Colombo Gazette)
