The State Border Service of Azerbaijan identified 2,837 foreigners, who violated residence legislation and rules of temporary or permanent stay in the country, in August.

The Service analyzed the cases and made relevant decisions, of which 272 decisions were related to the legalization of the residence of foreigners and stateless persons in the country, 1,375 with the use of an administrative fine, but without administrative deportation from the country, 969 with the use of an administrative fine along with the expulsion from the country, 197 with restriction on entry to the country and 24 with the replacement of the document for temporary or permanent residence with a new document.

During last month, the State Migration Service received 7,181 appeals for extension of stay of foreigners and stateless persons, applications for permits for temporary and permanent residence, as well as acceptance, rejection and restoration of citizenship, granting refugee status and citizenship, as well as granting permits for self-employment in the country or its extension.

Last month, 113,982 applications of foreigners and stateless persons were registered by the State Border Service in connection with the registration at the place of stay.

Foreigners and stateless persons arriving in Azerbaijan for a period exceeding ten days should register with the Migration Service.

A copy of the person's ID should be submitted to the Migration Service personally, via mail, or email. This service is free and application forms are available at the Migration Service, post offices, and at www.migration.gov.az.

The Migration Service will immediately register foreigners at place of their stay and present written notification to the receiving party within 1 working day.

Foreigners can be registered for the period allotted by their visas, or for 90 days under the visa-free regime.

After changing the place of residence, registration must be renewed. These easy steps can exempt visitors from penalties and deportation.

In January-July 2017, the relevant structures of the Interior Ministry and the State Migration Service registered 1,782 people who arrived in Azerbaijan for permanent residence and 1002 people who left Azerbaijan.

The positive migration balance was 780 people.
