Kalabhavan to hold Vidyarambham ceremony on September 30


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Kalabhavan School of Music & Arts, the franchisee of Kochin Kalabhavan in the South Indian state of Kerala, will be conducting Vidyarambham ceremony on Saturday, September 30 from 8.30am to 10am.

As a special gesture, the institution will be waiving the registration fee from those taking admission for any art, music, yoga or karate course on the day.

Vidyarambham is a Hindu tradition observed on Vijayadasami day mainly in South India under different names and with regional variations. It commemorates the victory of good over evil.It is also known as Dusserah.

The first nine days of the festival is called Navaratri and the tenth day is known as Vijayadasami which commemorates the victory of the mythological figure Rama over Ravana. Indians have been celebrating the Navaratri festival with great zest and fervour from ancient times. During those days, the Hindu deities Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati are worshipped.

On Vijayadasami day, people make an auspicious beginning of art and learning. According to Hindu beliefs, Vijayadasami forms an auspicious day to start any process of learning as it is dedicated to Saraswati, the deity of knowledge.

Every year, the institute is organising Vidyarambham in a traditional manner. It is an opportunity that it provides for those who aspire to learn art and music. Usually, a good number of students enrol for different courses on the day.

Kalabhavan has three branches in Oman. The institution provides training in Vocal Carnatic Music, Indian Classical Dance, Cinematic Dance, Tabala, Mridangam, Congo, Drums, Electronic Keyboard, Guitar, Drawing, Karate and Yoga. The institution is also conducting its annual drawing competition titled 'Little Fingers 2017' for children aged 5 to 13 years. This year, the competition which is based on the theme 'Clean City' will be held at Kalabhavan's Ruwi branch on Friday, October 13.

The children will be divided into two groups as Sub-Junior (5 to 9 years) and Junior (9 to 13 years). The competition for sub-junior will be from 9 to 10.30am and junior from 11am to 12.30pm. From each category, there will be three winners and they will be given away certificates and mementos during Kalabhavan's Founder's Day Celebration on October 27. Prior registration is required for the competition and the registration closes on October 5.
