Exhibition of Georgian paintings opens

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) ‘Expressing Space Exhibition', an expo featuring paintings of some of the well-known artists from Georgia was inaugurated at Building No.18 of Katara Cultural Village on Monday.
The event, where 64 images are exhibited, is hosted by Vanda Art Gallery of Tbilisi, which has a good record of organising such expos in different parts of the world. Apart from paintings, many handicrafts and artefacts, designed by artisans and craftsmen from Georgia, too are on display.
Katara General Manager Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti was the chief guest at the opening.
Mujiri siblings Alexander and Vanda, who are directors of Gallery Vanda are the organisers of the event which will last till October 2.
While inaugurating the exhibition, Georgia's ambassador to Qatar Ekaterine Meiring said five reputable events, including a music festival were organised by the Georgian embassy at Katara in the last five years and each of them received remarkably good patronage from this country's residents.
While thanking the Katara officials for the support extended to the hosting of the latest exhibition, Meiring hoped similar support is expected for the ongoing as well as the forthcoming Georgian events to be held in Katara.
Meiring, who is soon leaving the country after her stint as Georgia's first ambassador here said she would make use of her offices with the authorities in Tbilisi in coming years.
The paintings, featuring images from different locations across Europe, are done mainly by Gia Japaridze, Gogi Chaegelishvili, Gogi Lazarashvili, Mamuka Tsetskhladze, and Alex Berdysheff. At least three of them have arrived to lead the exhibition.
At the opening, several serving ambassadors of Qatar were present.
