(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) New York, Sept. 19 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday held a series of meetings with heads of states and delegations attending the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
King Abdullah met with Lebanese President Michel Aoun and discussed ways to boost and activate cooperation and coordination between the two countries in various fields, especially in the economic and military spheres.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in Lebanon, where His Majesty King Abdullah congratulated President Aoun on the expulsion of the terrorist Daesh group from Lebanon.
During a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the King stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation on efforts to re-launch the peace process on the basis of the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The King also met with President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, for a discussion on ways to expand joint cooperation between the two countries in various fields, namely in economic domains.
During the meeting, the Kosovar President stressed that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, plays a pivotal role in achieving security and stability in the Middle East and the world, praising His Majesty's efforts to highlight the bright image of tolerant Islam.
The King also discussed with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev regional and international developments and efforts to combat terrorism, which threatens global security and stability.
The meeting dealt with means of advancing economic cooperation between Jordan and Bulgaria, especially in setting sectoral priorities.
His Majesty and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari tackled relations between Jordan and the African nation and ways of cementing economic cooperation. The talks also touched on counterterror efforts.
His Majesty the King also met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and emphasized that the two countries are keen to upgrade bilateral cooperation and continue coordination on various issues of common concern.
The meeting also dealt with efforts to re-launch serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, in addition to the "Corridor for Peace and Prosperity" initiative launched by Japan about 10 years ago.
The Japanese prime minister praised Jordan's role towards the refugees, stressing his country's continued support for the Kingdom. He also expressed his country's concern over North Korea's continued nuclear tests.
In this regard, His Majesty the King said North Korea's actions are a threat to Japan's security, emphasizing that the UN Security Council's resolutions must be implemented.
