Qatar- Siege countries' allegations make no sense: FM
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The allegations that Qatar funds extremism make no financial sense, HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, yesterday said.
In an interview with Fox Business, the minister said how was it possible that Qatar would invest in the fight against terrorism and yet fund terrorist organisations as well.
'How I'm investing in both sides of the equation when I am fighting terrorism and investing billions in this and from the other hand, I'm supporting them to nurture them.
Accusing Qatar of supporting terrorism, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates imposed a blockade of the country that has now entered the fourth month. Qatar has repeatedly denied the charges as baseless.
Appearing on the Fox Business Network's Mornings with Maria show, Sheikh Mohamed said: 'Qatar has been a very active player in the global coalition countering terrorism, which is under the leadership of the United States.
According to the minister, the countries that have accused Qatar of supporting militants have failed to prove the allegations. 'More than 100 days, they have failed to provide with any single evidence that Qatar is supporting terrorism.
The foreign minister said the blockade was really not about terrorism at all.
'It's about the differences in Qatar's foreign policy with them. They want to infringe on the sovereignty of our country and to undermine our decision-making process and impose foreign policy on Qatar, which cannot happen for any sovereign state.
Sheikh Mohamed reiterated Qatar's opposition to terrorism.
'So, regarding… Muslim Brotherhood and all the terrorists and any terrorist organisation, Qatar is not supporting, the minister was quoted as saying in a handout by Fox Business.
