Geneva: Qatar reiterated its support to all efforts aimed at reaching a political solution in the Syrian conflict based on the terms of Geneva 1 communique and the relevant Security Council resolutions.

Ambassador H E Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, Qatar's permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, made the remarks during an interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, taking place at the 36th session of the Human Rights Council. He said it is important for all the agreements made in different paths to obtain comprehensive ceasefire and to all humanitarian aids to reach all of Syria.

Regarding the report published on the policies made to change the population structure in Syria, he said it is a military strategy followed by the Syrian regime and its allies since day one of the Syrian revolution, which fits its security needs and ensures continuation of its political power.

The ambassador added this strategy starts with a firm blockade of cities and the starvation of its people in parallel with random bombing using heavy weapons, including chemical ones, to destroy the infrastructure, especially the hospitals, obliging the people to choose either to die of starvation or sickness, or agree to terms that force them to surrender and flee. The events that took place in Al Qusayr, Homs, Darayya and other cities are clear examples, HE the ambassador added.

Qatar's permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva said the 34th paragraph of the report published by the commission on the methods implemented by the Syrian regime to strip the dissidents, displaced and refugees of their possessions is evidence that the regime continues to hold on to these strategies.

The ambassador called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to take firm stance on bringing those responsible for the crimes and violations in Syria since 2011 to justice in addition to providing additional support to the neutral entities to investigate those crimes.
