Olympic Council of Asia Delegation to Visit Kabul


(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL - As Afghanistan prepares a four-year plan for the development of domestic sports, a delegation of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is expected to visit Kabul to evolve a National Olympic Council (NOC) policy.
President Ashraf Ghani expressed the views during a meeting with OCA head, Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah, in Ashgabat -- capital of Turkmenistan -- late on Sunday.
Ghani travelled to Turkmenistan to attend the inaugural ceremony for Asian Games and meet his Tajik and Turkmen counterparts.
Two hundred Afghan athletes, 30 percent of them females, are taking part in the 10-day contest. The Afghans are participating in 16 of the 21 different disciplines.
Afghan athletes won two medals, including one gold and a silver, in the contest \on Sunday in Ashgabat.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said the OCA head thanked President Ghani for his participation in the inaugural ceremony.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah was quoted as saying the Games helped improve ties among nations and they were ready for any kind of cooperation with developing the sports sector.
The president expressed his pleasure over the winning of medals by Afghan athletes and hoped they would bring home more laurels.
Ghani said he planned to allocate special funds and create a four-year plan for the promotion of sports. He asked the OCA head to send a delegation to Kabul for making the AOC policy and an an election mechanism for National Olympic Committee (NOC).
Al-Sabah responded an OCA team would visit Afghanistan after the Asian Games.
After the inauguration ceremony in Turkmenistan, Ghani departed for the United States to attend the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York. (Pajhwok)
