(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- Minister of Higher Education Dr. Mohammed Al-Fares said Sunday that the ministry has come a long way in aligning education outcomes with the needs of the labor market.

Al-Fares, also Education Minister, made his remarks to reporters after attending a meeting of the parliamentary committee on studying axes of two interpellation motions against His Highness the Prime Minister.

The ministry responded to axes on higher education by presenting a video on Sabah Al-Salem Kuwait University City project in Al-Shadadiyah area, he said.

The video displayed phases of implementing and turning the project over, in addition to transferring Kuwait University (KU) to the City, he said.

The ministry also responded to the axes on education, particularly scholarships inside and outside Kuwait, in addition to the education ministry's staff scholarship programs.

A five-year plan, for scholarships outside Kuwait, is currently underway in coordination with the Civil Service Commission (CSC), and will include determining majors most required in labor markets, said the minister.

Some studying majors such as mechanical engineering will be omitted from the study abroad scholarships program due to their availability in Kuwait University, he said.

Meanwhile, there will be a coordination to expand scholarship seats for a more of vital and rare majors such as medicine, dentistry, medical science assistance, and nursing majors, Al-Fares added.

The higher education ministry communicates directly with Kuwaiti cultural offices around the world, he said, noting that the ministry constantly encourages these offices to sign agreements with universities specialized in medicine.

The ministry exerts all efforts to provide all potentials attracting Kuwaitis to study physics, chemistry, and science majors, the minister said, adding that the ministry grants the students financial bonuses to study such rare fields.

Al-Fares also said that there is currently a joint coordination between the ministry, KU's education college, and PAAET's Basic Education College to determine the labor market's needs, and find ways to encourage students to take up more scientific majors, including physical education, he said.

He also pointed out an integrated plan by the three educational bodies that is yet to be announced after completing their joint agreement and coordination. (end) ns.fn.ma
