JORDAN VALLEY —AlGhad— Numerous families in the North Jordan Valley area of Qarn, in Irbid, received eviction notices issued by the Jordan Valley Authority, informing them that their houses are about to be demolished. Residents of the neighbourhood woke up to a security force accompanying a convoy of machinery and heavy equipment headed towards their homes.
JVA Secretary General Saad Abu Hammour stated to AlGhad that these lands belong to the Authority, and that the buildings there are an irregular violation.
Meanwhile, Local Council chairman, Oqab Awwadin, said that the Authority has been contacted, in order to postpone the demolition until an alternative arrangement is made.
More so, Awwadein warned that the demolition of these houses will put so many Jordanian families in face of peril and homelessness. Especially since the North Jordan Valley is actually one of the Kingdom's poorest areas.
This, however, is the first time the residents of the area face such a situation, Awwadin said.
