Delhi: Machines replace token selling counters at 70 metro stations

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has removed token selling counters at 70 of its 164 Metro stations to minimize human interference.
Such counters at more stations would be removed soon; tokens will be dispensed only from Token Vending Machines (TVMs).
Stations, where TVMs have entirely replaced counters, include Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, Jor Bagh, Akshardham, Mayur Vihar-I, Mandi House, and Barakhamba Road.

DMRC wants a total of 431 TVMs at its stations
Token Machines
DMRC aims to discourage human interference in the token sale process and promote the use of TVMs; currently, DMRC has 216 TVMs and would procure 215 more.
However, passengers can still purchase the tokens from customer-care centers.
People were reluctant to use TVMs as getting back change was difficult, but fares would be in round figures from October after DMRC's second fare revision.

A DMRC official stated: "In a city like Delhi, everything should be automated. However, at stations that are connected to railway stations and bus terminals, where we expect a lot of first-time travelers, token counters will continue to operate."
