Kuwait- Iraqi Government forces retake town in western Iraq


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Sept 16 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Army troops liberated the western town Akasha and part of the borderline with neighboring Syria, the military said on Saturday.

A combined fore of the army troops, paramilitary squad "Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi" and police units liberated the town, including a stretch of a main road that snakes across it.

Akasha is a small town northwest of Ar-Rutba district of Al-Anbar province of Iraq, on the road between the towns of Ar-Rutbah and Al-Qa'im.

The government forces, backed by the police and the irregulars, have been seeking to to tighten the noose around militants of the so-called Islamic State (IS).

Territory under control of the IS has become much smaller after the government troops and the supporting forces drove them out of Mosul and other key cities in Iraq. (end) ah.rk
