Fatah delegation in Cairo to discuss rapprochement talks: reports

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) A delegation from the Fatah movement has arrived on Saturday to Cairo to meet with Egyptian officials to discuss possible reconciliation attempts with the Hamas movement, according to local media reports.

Egypt has been pushing for bilateral reconciliation, and President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi called for an initiative to end ongoing dissidence.

According to Egyptian local media reports, the Fatah delegation wants to examine the intentions of Hamas regarding any initiatives.

Hamas has been the ruling authority in the Gaza Strip since 2007, when it won the parliamentary elections, defeating the then-ruling Fatah party.

Hamas assuming control over the Gaza Strip was considered a turning point in the history of the tunnels leading between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. Since then, a full blockade on Gaza by Israel has ensued, leading to increased reliance on the tunnels for the transfer of goods.
