Kuwait asks North Korean diplomats to leave

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: Kuwait has informed the Embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) to reduce the number of diplomats and the level of its diplomats representation in Kuwait to Charge D'Affaires. Sources affiliated to Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, 'Only four diplomats will remain in the embassy, including the Charge D'Affaires'.

They indicated that the Pyongyang Ambassador to Kuwait So Chaing Sik and several remaining diplomats will leave the country in the coming few weeks.

In the same context, a report of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), which was published by the American news media, stated that Kuwait has decided to send back a significant number of diplomats from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as well as suspend issuance or renewal of visas for its nationals.

According to the Voice of America (VOC), the move taken by Kuwait is in line with the UNSC Resolution No. 2321, which was adopted in 2016 to punish Pyongyang for its fifth nuclear test. It revealed that Kuwait is the third country after Mexico and Peru to send back an ambassador of Pyongyang based on a UN resolution.
