Afghan students on Friday staged a peaceful protest in Karachi

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): Afghan students on Friday staged a peaceful protest for their registration in the Medical and Dental Council (PM & DC)
In line with a scholarship scheme of the Pakistan government, doctors and medical students from the neighbouring country were admitted to Baqai Medical University in the port city of Karachi.
However, the PM & DC is not registering the Afghan students, who have graduated from the university and around 150 others still enrolled there, the protestors alleged.
The Baqai Medical University has granted admissions to Afghan students above the permissible limit in violation of rules. Subsequently, the council has refused to register Afghan students.
On behalf of fellow students. Nisar Ahmad Salar told Pajhwok Afghan News the university administration had been draggin its feet on the issue, thereby creating uncertainty about their future.
If their just demand was not met, they would continue with demonstrations, he warned, seeking an early settlement of the problem.
On the other hand, 's Deputy Ambassador Zardasht Shams said they had launched efforts to address the issue. They were in touch with senior Pakistani officials, including the university authorities, he added.
The students complained they could not complete their house jobs, post-graduation studies, practice their profession and verify their degrees in the absence of PM & DC registration, .
They said the issue had been shared with the Higher Commission, the Consulate and Embassy of Afghanistan. But the problem is yet to be unresolved.
