Dialogue key to resolving Gulf crisis: African Union


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud met with Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mohamed yesterday in Addis Ababa. During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister briefed Chairperson of the AU Commission on the latest developments in the Gulf crisis. He also expressed Qatar's appreciation of the African Union's position to resolve the crisis through constructive dialogue among all parties as well as the AU's support for the mediation led by the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.
For his part, the Chairperson reiterated the position of the African Union, announced by Alpha Conde, President of the Republic of Guinea and President of the African Union, towards the crisis, calling for resolving it through dialogue and diplomatic efforts, and supporting Kuwaiti mediation as a way to resolve the crisis, which is the same position advocated by Qatar since the beginning of the crisis.
Al-Mahmoud arrived in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa yesterday. He and the accompanying delegation were greeted upon arrival at Addis Ababa International Airport by Ethiopian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Akililu Hailemichael, Ethiopian ambassador to Qatar Mesganu Arga Moach, and members of the Qatar embassy in Ethiopia. The Deputy Prime Minister left Addis Ababa yesterday for Doha.
