Geneva: Chairman of Qatar's National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri met in Geneva yesterday with President of the UN Human Rights Council Joaquin Alexander Maza Martelli.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest reports on the siege imposed on the State of Qatar for more than 100 days.
The talks dealt with the human rights violations against the people of Qatar as a result of the siege, which affect the core human rights principles and all international legislations and conventions in this regard.
Dr Al Marri also gave details about the complaints received by the National Human Rights Committee from citizens and residents in Qatar, most of which concerned violations such as stripping family rights, attacking personal property of Qataris in the siege countries and depriving Qatari students of the right to complete their education in the universities of the siege countries.
Dr Al Marri called on the President of the Human Rights Council to inform members of the Council of the extent of the suffering resulting from the siege, especially families and students, and called on the Council to shoulder its responsibility to redress the victims.
The NHRC Chairman also met with Coordinator of the African Group at the Council Walid Dodash, Representative of the Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) Katharina Rose, and the Permanent Commissioner of France in Geneva.
