Arab FMs back steps taken by Kuwait on Abdali cell


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Sept 12 (KUNA) -- Arab League council of foreign ministers affirmed Tuesday their support to all measures taken by the State of Kuwait regarding the terrorist "Al-Abdali cell," and reasserted rejection to Iranian interference.

In a final communique at the 148th session, the council hailed Kuwait's efforts along with GCC countries through also their attempt to create channels for dialogue with Iran to bolster security and stability in the region.

The council condemned Iranian interference in Arab internal affairs and considered it a violation of International law, including the principle of good neighborliness and states sovereignty, stressing importance of cooperation between Arab countries and Iran based on good neighborliness and refrain from the use or threat of force.

The Council called on Iran to end acts of provocation that would undermine confidence building and threaten security and stability in the region.

The council renewed also its condemnation of the attacks on the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad, and to hold Iran responsible for these acts, and demanded Tehran to abide by the international conventions and treaties in this regard, especially the 1963 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The council condemned statements made by Iranian officials against Arab countries, urging the Iranian government to stop intimidating statements and acts of provocation and to stop media campaigns against the Arab countries as a blatant interference in the internal affairs of these countries.

The council called on Iran to stop policies that would feed sectarianism and sectarian conflicts and refrain from supporting groups that fuel these conflicts in the Arab Gulf states, calling on the Iranian government to stop supporting and funding militias and armed parties in the Arab countries.

The Council condemned Iran's continuing occupation of the three islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Moussa, stressing its support for all peaceful measures taken by the UAE to restore its sovereignty over its occupied islands in accordance with international law.

The council condemned as well Iranian intervention in the Syrian crisis and the serious repercussions it would have on Syria's future, security, sovereignty, stability, national unity and territorial integrity, stressing that such intervention would not serve the efforts exerted to end the crisis peacefully.
