The 20th Opera Days of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) started in Istanbul on September 11.
Singers from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and the Northern Cyprus performed in the opening concert, Azertac reported.
The opera performers from these Turkic nations presented pieces from the traditional classical repertoire, as well as pieces from their native countries' national operas, with a piano acompaniment.
The next concert will be held in the Northern Cyprus on September 13.
TURKSOY, also known as the UNESCO of the Turkic World was established in 1993 with the participation of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey's Culture Ministers.
Later on, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Altai, Sakha Yakutia, Tyva and Khakassia also joined the organization along with Gagauzia (Moldova) as member states with an observer status.
